Lovćen received the status of a national park in 1952. It is located between the Bay of Kotor, the Skadar Basin and the Budva Riviera and is a symbol of freedom and national identity for the inhabitants of Montenegro. It has two peaks, Štirovnik and Jezerski vrh, where the Njegoš mausoleum is located, the place where Petar II Petrović Njegoš, one of the most important Montenegrin rulers and philosophers, is buried.
